Disney+ has one of the deepest family film catalogues of any streaming service, from animated classics to modern Pixar hits and live-action adventures. The problem is not a lack of choice but too much of it: the homepage promotes the newest releases, while some of the best family films sit several rows down. This list picks the strongest family movies on Disney+ right now, the ones that work for children and adults alike. This guide picks the strongest family films on the service right now, from animated classics to modern Pixar hits and live-action adventures for older kids.

Animated Classics the Whole Family Loves

The animated classics are the backbone of Disney+, and the best of them have lost none of their charm. One standout tells a story of adventure and friendship with songs that have become part of popular culture, and it works just as well on a tenth viewing as on the first. Another is a beautifully crafted film about courage and kindness that parents enjoy as much as their children, with jokes pitched at both audiences. Disney+ also adds new family films regularly, so checking the new releases row once a month will surface titles that were not there the last time you looked.

These films are the safest choice for a family movie night, because they are designed for all ages and carry no surprises in content. Check the runtime before you start, because some of the older classics are shorter than modern films, which makes them ideal for younger children with shorter attention spans. A classic and a bowl of popcorn is still the best formula for a family evening.

Modern Pixar and Disney Hits

The modern Pixar and Disney films on the service are among its strongest offerings. One recent hit combines stunning animation with a story about family, identity and belonging that has moved audiences of all ages. Another is a fast, funny adventure with a memorable villain and a soundtrack that children will be singing for days. These are the films that dominate playground conversations, and watching them means your children will not feel left out.

Many of these films also work on a second level for adults, with themes about loss, change and growing up that younger viewers will not notice but parents will appreciate. That layered storytelling is what separates a good family film from a forgettable one. Watch them together rather than letting children watch alone, because the shared experience is half the pleasure.

Live-Action Adventures for Older Kids

For families with older children, the live-action adventures on Disney+ offer a step up in excitement. These include swashbuckling adventures, superhero stories and fantasy epics that are thrilling without being frightening. One popular choice is a grand adventure film with impressive effects and a clear, heroic story that older kids will love, while another is a superhero film that balances action with humour and heart.

Check the age rating before you press play, because live-action films vary more in intensity than animation. A film rated for older children may include scenes that are too intense for a younger sibling, so read the guidance or watch the first fifteen minutes together. With the right pick, a live-action adventure can be the most exciting family movie night of the month.

Disney+ has a family film for every age and every mood. Start with a classic, try a modern Pixar hit, and save the live-action adventures for the older kids. Your next family movie night is already waiting on the homepage. Make it a weekly tradition, take turns choosing the film, and your family movie nights will quickly become the part of the week everyone looks forward to.
