Netflix's action catalogue is one of its strongest assets, mixing big-budget originals with licensed blockbusters and international hits. The problem is finding the good ones: the catalogue is huge, it changes constantly, and the recommendation algorithm tends to show you the same few titles. This guide cuts through the noise with the best action movies on Netflix in 2026, chosen for quality, excitement and variety.

The picks below cover different flavours of action, so whether you want a tense thriller, a martial arts showcase or a large-scale war epic, there is something here for your evening.

Best Action Thrillers on Netflix

The best action thrillers on Netflix balance tension with set pieces, and the platform's originals have become genuinely strong in this area. Look for films with a clear hook, a strong lead performance and action that serves the story rather than replacing it. The standout thrillers of recent years include tight, contained stories where the action escalates naturally, as well as larger films with set pieces that rival anything in cinemas. A good test is whether the film is still gripping in its quiet scenes: if the dialogue holds your attention, the action will land harder when it arrives.

Best Martial Arts and Fight Films

Netflix has quietly built one of the best martial arts collections of any streamer, thanks to its strong catalogue of Korean, Indonesian and Hong Kong action films. These films are worth seeking out, because their fight choreography is often far more inventive than Hollywood's, with long takes, practical stunts and a physicality that CGI cannot match. If you have only watched American action films, the international martial arts section is the most rewarding corner of Netflix's catalogue, and it is where the most exciting action of the last few years has come from.

Best Large-Scale Action and War Films

For spectacle, Netflix offers big-budget originals and licensed blockbusters with large-scale battles, chases and set pieces. The best of these combine scale with craft: the action is legible, the stakes are clear, and the film knows when to slow down. War films deserve a special mention, because Netflix's catalogue includes several powerful ones that use action to explore the human cost of conflict rather than just celebrating it. These are the films to choose when you want a big-screen experience at home.

How to Find Good Action Movies on Netflix

Netflix's own recommendations are a poor guide to its action catalogue, because they prioritise what you have already watched. A better approach is to browse by country: the Korean, Indonesian and Indian action sections are consistently strong. Use the search function with specific terms like heist, martial arts or spy thriller rather than scrolling the generic action row. Check the runtime and the director before starting a film, and read a short review rather than trusting the match percentage, which is based on your viewing history rather than quality.

What to Watch First

If you only watch one action film on Netflix this week, pick the one that matches your mood rather than the one at the top of the trending list. Want tension and a tight plot? Choose a thriller. Want pure spectacle? Choose a big-budget original. Want something different? Try a Korean or Indonesian martial arts film. The catalogue is deep enough that there is a great action film for every mood, and the best ones are rarely the ones Netflix pushes hardest.
