Toy Story 5 is not done breaking records. After clearing more than $1.1 billion at the global box office, Pixar's sequel has now become the most-watched movie on Disney+ in the United States, according to streaming charts. The film debuted on the platform on September 23, 2026, and has held the top spot on both the overall and movies rankings since, proving its second act is just as strong as its theatrical run.

The numbers behind the run are staggering. The film earned over $1.148 billion worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing film of 2026 so far and the highest-grossing entry in the Toy Story franchise. With a reported production budget of $250 million, it also stands as one of the most expensive animated films ever made — an investment that paid off handsomely.

Directed by Andrew Stanton, the sequel follows Jessie and the toys as they confront Lilypad, a tablet voiced by Greta Lee, in a story about children choosing screens over traditional playtime. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack returned as Woody, Buzz, and Jessie. The film holds a 92 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and earned an A from CinemaScore audiences, matching the franchise's beloved track record.

The soundtrack delivered its own milestone: Taylor Swift's original song for the film, I Knew It, I Knew You, debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. It is a fitting capstone for a film that, as we have noted in our coverage of this year's biggest releases, belongs to a rare club of sequels that outperform their predecessors both commercially and critically.

Its chart position may face a challenge in December, when Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three both arrive on December 18. But even if the yearly rankings shift, Toy Story 5 has already secured its place among 2026's defining theatrical events — and now its defining streaming ones too.

For Pixar, the film's success is a full-circle moment: a franchise that began in the 1990s is now thriving in the streaming era it once feared. Fans revisiting the toys on Disney+ can also explore the season's other big animated announcements and the latest fantasy trailer reveals on our site.
